SPATIAL STRUCTURE EVOLUTION AND ITS MECHANISM OF URBAN-RURAL SETTLEMENT IN TRADITIONAL RURAL AREAS: A CASE STUDY OF ZHOUKOU CITY, HENAN PROVINCE

Abstract Urbanization is the inevitable way of social and economic development. In the processing of urbanization, the spatial structure development pattern of urban and rural settlement system is facing multiple challenges. In this study, the traditional agricultural area, Zhoukou, was used as the research area. It was found that the evaluative regularity of the spatial structure of urban-rural settlement in Zhoukou showed the evolution process of the low-level equilibrium model (1973)-the point axis model (1990)-the central peripheral model (2000)-the circle model (2015). Under the low-level equilibrium structure, towns were mainly concentrated in the three vertical and horizontal county roads, and the spatial structure of city presented the characteristic structure with the balanced development of "3-3-3", while the rural areas were scattered; Under the point-axis structure, the expansion index of urban population and construction land area increased, which had gradually become the growth pole of regions.
